Youth’s dreams, hopes, and now as he prayed for his future —
Has moved on to Heaven, yet loved ones mourn
This loss— especially his mother.
My arms could not take his place—
Could not hold her,
Yet I felt her sadness, witnessed her tears.
But had no words—
To ease the presence of a son’s embrace.
If only I could—I would try
To explain a mother’s love.
A mother’s love—a child’s first
Is always, was meant to be—
So intimate—this woman to her newborn—
Who sprang from her—
Body, bringing both joy and pain—
From sleepless nights
To skinned knees, and his first broken heart.
Who could know him better?
Feel blessed, dear mother, his spirit lives with
Yours— just as in the beginning he was your
His dreams, his love remains in your soul, your heart
A mother’s love lives on—in your strength.
Even now, you have lost—will lose
again. Life is that way—
Yesterday, a child—
Today a man in God’s heaven, you will meet again.
You will always miss him always —
Only the soul of a mother, could understand this loss
Praise God for your family and friends who’s love and prayers hold you up as you walk through each day
Your comfort is only possible because just as you lost your son, God lost his son, so that we, as believers, will live in eternity.
This is a poem I wrote for a mother who recently lost her son in a car accident. It is going to be a very sad holiday season for them, just as it will be for many. Please keep the people who may be heartbroken this holiday season in your prayers.
